The Secret Behind the Greatest Invention of Kids

Most of us have probably never created anything that's saved a life, but that doesn't mean we can't have big ideas. In fact, a lot of the time it's kids who have some of the most creative and revolutionary ideas. They're the ones who think outside the box, who see life from a different perspective.

1. BRAILLE

Invention

Louis Braille, who was blinded at the age of three, invented the system in 1824. Braille, universally accepted system of writing used by and for persons and consisting of a code of 63 characters, each made up of one to six raised dots arranged in a six-position matrix or cell.



2. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

By 1917, people were more used to electricity and 15-year-old Albert Sadacca was ready to capitalize on their trust. Prior to that time, those brave enough to try electric Christmas tree lights had to shell out approximately $2000 in today's money for the privilege. Sadacca had the idea to create an affordable set of Christmas lights and had them produced by his parents' novelty lighting company. It's because of him that lights are now a ubiquitous part of the holiday season.



3. Sweeping Device With 2 Heads

Samuel Thomas Houghton is a British inventor. In April 2008, at the age of 5, he received a patent for his "Sweeping Device With Two Heads" invention. He is thought to be the youngest person to have been granted a patent for their invention. He sweeping device for sweeping a surface comprises a combination of two brushes connected by a resilient connector.


4. Earmuff

Innovation

Earmuffs were invented by Chester Greenwood of Farmington, Maine in 1873, at the age of 15. Earmuffs are worn for protection from the cold. Due to the ears extending from the side of the head in order to assist in gathering sound waves from the air, ears have a high skin surface area to volume ratio, and very little muscle tissue.


5. Toy Truck

The toy truck was first patented by 6-year-old Robert Patch in June 1963. The tiny play vehicle, now a favorite of young boys everywhere, could be taken apart, rebuilt and transformed into different kinds of trucks.




6. Toy Scooter
